Burch Creek Elementary School
Community Council Meeting Minutes
September 8, 2016

I. In attendance: Rick Proffer, Jessica Volpe, Nicole McGarry, Seth Robinson, Melanie Wilhelmsen, Amy Rich, Jenn Hansen

II. Rick Proffer reviewed the Trust Land Plan for the 2016-2017 school year. Mr. Proffer distributed a summary of the estimated expenditures, goals, and action plan steps to each member of the community council. Most of the money will be used to fund salaries and benefits for classroom aides. Classroom aides provide support for interventions and small group instruction. If Burch Creek receives an increased distribution (which is likely based on current enrollment numbers) those funds will be used for additional aide support and for additional technology.

III. The Watch D.O.G.S. program will be administered under the P.T.A. umbrella rather than the community council. Eldon and Tiffany Hamelin will spearhead the program.

IV. Rick Proffer reviewed the school safety plan. There has been concern about children crossing 40th Street on bike or foot, children crossing other roads without manned crosswalks, motor vehicles traveling too fast in bus zones, and wild behavior at bus stops (children waiting for the bus). The South Ogden police and city council members are supporting Mr. Proffer and Burch Creek Elementary as they try to help every child travel to and from school safely.

V. Jessica Volpe will schedule a Weber School District technology specialist to attend our next meeting, which will be held November 10, 2016, at 5:30 p.m., for a technology safety presentation that needs to be attended annually by the community council.

VI. There is a community council training on October 12 at 6:00 p.m. at Bonneville High School. All council members are invited and encouraged to attend.
