Community Council Meeting Minutes

September 7, 2017

 

I.                 In attendance: Rick Proffer, Jessica Volpe, Nicole McGarry, Seth Robinson, Melanie Wilhelmsen, Amy Rich, Jenn Hansen

 

II.               The council reviewed the Trust Land Plan for the 2017-2018 school year. Most of the money will be used to fund salaries and benefits for classroom aides.  Classroom aides provide support for interventions and small group instruction. Some money will also be used to fund chrome book carts.  There may be an increase in the amount of Trust Land Funds received by Burch Creek Elementary school this year.

 

III.              The community council meetings for the remainder of the year will be held at 5:30 p.m. on: November 16, 2017; January 18, 2018; and March 15, 2018.

 

IV.             Jessica Volpe will schedule a Weber School District technology specialist to attend our next meeting, which will be held November 16, 2017, at 5:30 p.m., for a technology safety presentation that needs to be attended annually by the community council.  Parents and other adult members of the school community will be invited to attend that presentation.

 

V.               Rick Proffer informed the council that there is a planned temporary rerouting of 40th Street.  The detour will greatly increase traffic along Jefferson Avenue, 42nd Street, and 900 East.  In an effort to keep Burch Creek Elementary students safe as they travel to and from school each day the community council will do three things:  Seth Robinson will create an informational flyer to be sent home to each family, Jenn Hansen will post about the detour on the Facebook page, and Mrs. Bailey (the school secretary) will send text messages.  In addition, each council member was encouraged to talk to his/her neighbors and friends about the detour and encourage parents to walk to school with their children.  The detour is scheduled to begin September 13, 2017 and will last 2-4 weeks. 

 

VI.             Rick Proffer informed the community council about the school’s Title I plan.  The plan is located on the school’s website under the tab, “Title I”.  The council will discuss the plan during each meeting.

 

 

VII.           Nicole McGarry proposed that the meeting be adjourned.  Jessica Volpe seconded the motion.  All were in favor and the meeting was adjourned until November 16, 2017.
